Today started with a hotel breakfast facing the Einsiedeln monastery. The weather was sunny and nice.
Soon after I started today's part of the hike, a father with his two sons asked me for directions. They wanted to take the pilgrims trail to Schwyz, which by chance was my way for today. I briefly explained the signs of the Swiss hiking trail system to them. It turned out, that they were all from the UK. So we walked together and talked for a while. Through the whole hike we met again and again and talked a little. That's the nice thing about hiking: it is super easy to get to know people.
About two thirds of the trail led me through picturesque Alptal. Very mild ascent, still sunny, very relaxed.
The last third of the trip was pure hell. First there is a steep ascent (about 400mtrs) to get to the northern shoulder of the Kleine Mythen mountain (Hagenegg). That's actually not too bad. But then starts the final part of the trail: 900metrs of the steepest descent, no place to rest or take a break. The muscles of your ... tush ... are constantly working for 1.5hrs. No way to relax. I am quite sure, this is the only part of the pilgrim's trail, where it is officially allowed to swear and curse. I did. And if I was gaining muscle according to the pain I had, tomorrow I am gonna have world's biggest ... tush ... ever!
Anyway, the views from Hagenegg and everywhere along the way down to Schwyz were spectacular. You had a beautiful look on Lake Lucerne and Lauerzersee. Clouds were only gathering around the Mythen mountains. In the valley there was the most beautiful sumer day. Awesome.
