Stage 4: Fischenthal - Rapperswil

I woke up around 0600, because it started to rain again. When I woke up at 0800 (my official time to get up) it was still raining. It was actually a thunderstorm. I took a shower and went for breakfast. After that it was still raining. So I just sat there and waited for the rain to end. And end it did around 1030. So I quickly grabbed my backpack and left. Forecast said, there were gonna be thunderstorms in the afternoon and I did not really want to be in one of these again.

The hike was perfect. Following a slow descent I soon saw Lake Zurich for the first time (on this hike). The sun came out, no rain. And the tranquility of a deserted hiking trail contributed to an all in all good mood.

Through the last few days it has been raining so heavily, that sometimes the hiking trail was sort of a little river.

At one point I kinda lost my way again or rather I was uncertain, which path to take.Signs were missing. But one very kind man shouted from about 50m uphill, that I had to take the staircase (which was kinda hidden). And right he was. So I was back on track with the help of this very kind guy.

The last few kilometres to Rapperswil I was more or less running. There were huge clouds coming up and I really wanted to avoid thunderstorms and rain today. It only very briefly rained with some big raindrops,  then it ended again. I didn't even have to put on my rain jacket. No thunderstorms whatsoever.

Arriving in Rapperswil was today's highlight. Rapperswil has a stunningly beautiful old town with a castle and a monastery right at Lake Zurich. There is a wooden pedestrian bridge across the lake,  which I am gonna take tomorrow. When I reached the old town I left my original trail and just went for a little stroll around castle, monastery and old town. I have been here before, but coming here all 80km by foot is way more rewarding than just taking the train from Zurich.

I went for a little picknick at the university right at the lake. Then I took the bus to get back to my accommodation. Today I am staying at a little B&B in Jona.

Feet stopped hurting and most of the rest of my body did so as well. Took the whole 20km today in one go without taking a break. Seems like my 'training' is paying off.
